The history of Silver American Eagles traces back to the mid-1980s when the United States Mint introduced this iconic silver coin. The program was authorized by the Liberty Coin Act, signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1985, with the first coins minted in 1986. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the coin’s obverse features the iconic Walking Liberty design, originally used on the 1916-1947 half dollar. This captivating image, symbolizing freedom and patriotism, has become synonymous with the Silver American Eagle.

Since its inception, the Silver American Eagle has played a crucial role in the precious metals market, gaining popularity among both collectors and investors worldwide. Struck in one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver, these coins are recognized for their intrinsic value and the assurance of U.S. government backing. The Silver American Eagle not only serves as a tangible representation of American heritage but also stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of precious metals in global financial landscapes.

OBVERSE

The obverse (heads) features a refreshed depiction of Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. The United States Mint returned to its original historical assets to render a closer reflection of Weinman’s original vision that includes the addition of his traditional artist mark. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2024.”

REVERSE

The American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coins bear the new reverse (tails) design introduced in 2021. To give the coins an added level of security, they are crafted with enhanced security features, including a reeded edge variation. The new reverse design features an eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to a nest. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
